Viverone to Santhia

Irrigation

The weather forecast promises a hot day, but today's stage is quite short so the plan is to be finished in time for a leisurely lunch.

Today's date: 6.9.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 23,178

Distance: 14.82 km

Climbing: 68 m

The Via unwinds gently off the hillside down into Cavaglia where we took a coffee. There were a few walkers and cyclists about but the walk was very relaxed and peaceful. The path was very well marked and there were lots of resources for pilgrims.

After Cavaglia the landscape is entirely flat and the Via runs between sunken fields and irrigation canals. We crossed over the Turin to Milan motorway and railway.

The Via continued to run on raised paths between canals and fields until we entered the outskirts of Santhia.

Santhia is a pretty town with a pedestrianised centre. The church of Saint Agata has a Roman crypt which is still used.

Accommodation

Our last night in the apartment in Roppolo. The day ended with a tremendous thunderstorm which we sat out in a pizzeria.
