Vitry-le-Francois to Arrigny

Updated: Jul 30, 2020

Warming up

A cool night and a slow start. We had breakfast and charged phones and set off just after ten.

Today's date: 29.7.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 35,300

Distance: 22.87 km

Climbing: 76 m

Today was a shortish walk along the Marne valley to Lac du Der which is an artificial lake (the largest in Europe) built to regulate the flow of the river.

It was really warm and due to get hotter over the next few days.

We walked through fields of corn and sunflowers and saw a man metal-detecting. Not sure what he was looking for as we are some way from a battlefield. The river was full of big fish.

We took a break in ...

There were few villages and the first place we found open was at 5pm when we grabbed drinks at the bar in Arrigny. We saw a DB tractor (as in Aston Martin DB).

We have noticed that other pilgrims fast-forward these stages. There is a Roman road where they just put their heads down and do a 40 km day.

We chose to take it easier, but fear we have made our lives difficult as it is so hard to get provisions. There is some accomodation at least, but no bakers, shops or bars open along the via. We spent the evening planning and will decide in the morning what we will do.

Camping La Foret - Arrigny

A busy lakeside campsite. Lots of people about and quite noisy. They have a snack bar and we had wonderfully tasty junk food.
