Val d'Orcia.
Today's stage is longer than of late and takes us into the famously beautiful Val d'Orcia south of Siena.
It took us a while to pack up and get out the door, but it was a cool, grey day, so beating the heat wasn't a problem.
The via left Siena through Porta Romana and we were quickly onto the familar stony paths curving gently around hills.
Today's date: 6.10.20
Weather: cloudy and cool
Steps: 47,785
Distance: 32.86 km
Climbing: 307 m
We stopped for lunch at Isola d'Arbia. The cafe was busy, but there were plenty of tables outside and the sun came out for the only time all day.
The fields were freshly turned, with no vines or olive trees. There was no tree cover or shade at all and it would be a tough walk on a hot day.
The Via ran on along the valley through small farms and villages. One farm had Llamas guarded by the world's friendliest sheepdog. The Llamas and sheepdog were in turn guarded by a fierce-looking boar.
We stopped for an excellent cup of tea at Ponte d'Arbia and met some donkeys with their babies as we crossed the footbridge out of the village.
We walked the last few km with some walkers who had enormous packs. It was dark so it was good to have their company and young eyes to find the way.
La sosta a casa Anita - Buonconvento
Buonconvento is a very attractive walled village. We are staying at a small B&B. The village seems to have a wealthy expat presence and there are lots of nice restaurants. We had pasta for supper.
