Churches.
The plan for today was to take it easy and explore Lucca. We wandered out for a healthy breakfast but only managed the usual coffee and croissant.
We got a couple of passport stamps and had a light lunch at a delicatessen.

It was a cool day, but warmed up in the afternoon as we walked a circuit of the city walls. The walls are perfectly maintained with a broad path on top that is the only green space for the city. It was busy with runners and cyclists as well as people walking the 4.5km circuit.
The path runs through columns of chestnut trees and provides a view of the wooded hills that surround the city.
Some things that we observed about Lucca.
The city is picture perfect. There are no new or ugly buildings that you need to ignore. Everything is mediaeval and attractive.
The city is surrounded by green hills and mountains that you never see. The walls of the city, topped by trees, cut you off from the outside world.
There are a lot of tourists and tourism seems the only occupation.
There are a lot of churches.
Corte dei Nobili
As yesterday. It is in the centre of town, but a bit noisy. The room is comfortable, with an interesting view and decoration.
Supper was a soup and pizza at a restaurant our host recommended. It was a fantastic place with great food.
