Radicofani to Acquapendente

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

Empty.

After a brief tour of Radicofani, we started the long descent into the Val di Paglia.

Our first stop was the Casa Medici, a historic coaching inn and hostel. We then branched off the road and walked on a rocky path for 15km to Ponte a Vigo.

There were few farms and no people - it was a strange landscape, reminiscent of moorland.

Today's date: 9.10.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 38,100

Distance: 27.6 km

Climbing: 587 m

We stopped on the trail for a picnic lunch and took a break in Ponte a Vigo.

The Via then ran along a busy road until shortly before Acquapendente. It was no fun and it wasn't a place to stop for many photos. We sadly said goodbye to Tuscany and crossed into Lazio and the home straight.

The Via took its now traditional climb up to the village of Acquapendente. We had a gelato in the square which was full of Friday evening busy-ness. It seems a nice place and definitely not touristy.

Il Borgo - Acquapendente

A busy restaurant and hotel run by 5 friends. They do a pilgrim discount, so there are people we recognise here. The menu is great, but we pre-loaded with ice-cream, so ate in moderation. It seems there is an ultra marathon taking place this weekend on the route we have taken over the last 4 days. It is a pity we missed it - we definitely needed the entertainment today.
