Motorbikes.
Today we start to cross the Appenines. Accommodation remains a challenge - with the big hostels closed due to Covid, even a handful of walkers exhaust the very few places to stay in the mountains. Our plan is to use the bus service to move about. Relying on a bus to get you off the top of a mountain requires faith!

We had a good breakfast and walked into Ramiola on a mixture of paths and busy roads. We walked on a long bridge across the river Taro into Fornovo and then set off up into the mountains.
We took the twisty road up the valley. The majority of road users were on bikes and in sports cars. Fully 50% of the traffic was motorbikes, and this is on a weekday.
The scenery was great with views across valleys to adjacent hills. The landscape was a mix of woodland and pasture, though we saw no livestock. The road was full of zig-zags and quite steep, but we made good time and got to our destination bus-stop with time to spare.
By careful planning we had picked a bus-stop by a bar. The bar was popular with bikers and sat on a bend so we sat and watched as they raced past.
Casa dei Nonn - Berceto
The bus arrived on time and took us 25km farther into the mountains to Berceto. It is a really attractive village with a substantial church and cobbled streets. We have a room in a b&b for the next 2 nights.
Supper was salad followed by an early night as we have an early start tomorrow.
