Beans and peas

A lovely, if long walk. We actually did 2 stages back to back and stuck to the via all day.

The first stage was lovely. The via follows the Pilgrim's Way through the picture-postcard villages of Patrixbourne, Womenswold, Woolage and Shepherdswell.
The route ran in and out of woods and there were orchards and fields of beans and peas as well as the usual wheat.
We had lunch from the local shop on the green at Shepherdswell. Disappointingly the pub was shut.
Today's date: 11.7.20
Weather: sunny with a few clouds
Steps: 44,700
Distance: 32.25 km
Climbing: 370 m
The route was well marked all day and there were quite a few other walkers and cyclists on the path. Everyone was super friendly and courteous.

The walk in the afternoon was a bit less interesting. The route was more open and the fields mostly wheat, some being harvested.

Slightly surprisingly, there weren't many views of the sea as we approached Dover.
The route descends steeply for the last few km and you emerge quite close to the town centre. This is something the via seems to do well - the routes meander but you tend to avoid the duller bits on the edge of towns.

Nowhere open in Dover to get a stamp - took a picture of the poster at the tourist office as evidence.

A lovely refreshing cup of tea and then back to Canterbury for the evening.
There were lots of 'Thank you NHS' messages. Some were very inventive and quirky.
The Ebury Hotel
We have a cottage in the grounds of the hotel. Supper was a family picnic.
