Unexpected.
The hostel was cold when we woke, so we were quickly out to start the last full day on the Via. Perhaps we were too relaxed as it turned out to be a pretty tough day.
We had a coffee before leaving Campagnano and then set off into a cold and humid morning. You could see our breath condensing as we climbed Monte Razzano on the way out of town. There were many crosses by the side of the road.

We passed through Veio regional park and climbed up to the sanctuary of Madonna del Sorbo before descending into Formello for lunch.
Formello is a lovely village, easily the most attractive place that we have passed in the last few days.
The Via continued down a gorge before continuing its steep up and down progress for the rest of the afternoon. The paths were rocky and slippery and it was as tough a day of climbing as any we have had.
We passed Lazio's training ground, but all we could see was the car park. There were no other pilgrims about, though there were lots of mountain bikers on the trails.
We passed the film-set and managed to sneak some photos. It is for a series about Leonardo da Vinci.
We arrived in La Storta and rewarded ourselves with a proper Roman aperitivo. And a beer.
Casa nostra Signora - La Storta
A hostel run by nuns. It seemed appropriate for our last night before Rome. It is a huge modern complex of buildings and the rooms are large but spartan.
For supper we walked to a really busy local pizzeria. We had pasta while watching hundreds of pizzas go out of the door. The car park was so busy that it had a marshall directing traffic.
